We love the  sun.  Love it.  But we live in the midwest, and the amount of sunshine we get from October to March is limited.   My second child was born in the month of November, and I swore I would never have another winter baby.  The days were long, I felt trapped at home.  I just wanted to go for a walk and feel the sun on my face.  Fortunately, we did visit Florida while I was on maternity leave, but we left the sunshine and I was back to the gloom of the midwest.

Fast forward to wanting to have a third baby.  I did the math and made sure my due date would be that of spring.  Funny how there was a different plan for us.  By the time we did get pregnant, I had let go of the month the baby was to be born, and just wanted to be pregnant and embrace the plan God had for us.

Low and behold I was pregnant and due in November.   This was before I even knew about essential oils.  The winter baby #3 entered the world was another rough one.  When he was six weeks old my mom had a treadmill (she’s the best) delivered to my house.  That helped so much, I would put the babe in my ergo carrier, and walk, and walk, and walk.  Let me clarify to say postpartum depression is a real thing, and to seek out your provider for help.  If you feel you want to harm yourself or your baby call for help.

The sun provides with so many benefits, and a big one is mood.    When we do not see the sun it can lead us not feeling as motivated, ambitious, and sometimes trapped.

So what does any of this have to do with essential oils?  Well let me tell you I wish I would have known about them during those winter months of newborn life.  A little joyful blend in the diffuser or applied topically would have been lovely.  Citrus oils are EXCELLENT for mood.

During the winter months our family takes our vitamins, vitamin D3 is a must, do our best to stay active, which sometimes means pulling a Home Alone  by sledding walking down stairs, and diffuse citrus oils.

Joyful Blend is a blend of Lavandin, Lavender, Sandalwood, Tangerine, Melissa, Ylang Ylang, Elemi.  It is lovely to use to help elevate mood, it is uplifting, energizing, wonderful to use in times of low points or grief.  A great all around mood oil.

How I use Joyful Blend:

  1. 4-6 drops in the diffuser or the Walking on Sunshine recipe below.
  2.  1-2 drops inhaled from palms of hands.

Topically.  1-2 drops applied over my heart, bottoms of big toes, behind ears, or back of neck.   Dilute for sensitive skin or for skin that will be exposed to the sun.  A recipe I love in a roller bottle is Joyful Blend and Invigorating Blend (see below).

Internally.  This blend is not for internal use.

Kiddos.  I will do a swipe of the roller ball recipe below on the back of their necks if needed.  Mostly they receive the aromatic benefits, and the added bonus of this mama using it.

If you can see the sunshine today feel it on your face today for me, for now I will go put on my Joyful Blend and count the days until spring.

Have a Happy Happy Day!
